Making your own dog treats is a fun and easy way to do something special for your four-legged family member. The quality of ingredients you use to make the dog treats is likely better than the ingredients used in the manufactured treats. Peanut Butter Bites
Peanut Butter is a good source of protein and contains healthy fats.
- 1 cup peanut butter (organic with no added extras, specifically Xylitol)
- 1 litre plain yogurt
- Melt 1 cup peanut butter in a microwave safe bowl
- Combine 1L plain yogurt and melted peanut butter
- Pour the mixture into cupcake papers
- Place in the freezer
Pooch’s Pumpkin Strips
Pumpkin has great health benefits for dogs and is a natural solution to canine constipation and diarrhea.
- 2 cups pumpkin
- Bake or microwave your pumpkin until soft.
- Puree pumpkin in a blender or food processor.
- Preheat oven to 60 degrees or lowest setting possible.
- Spread pureed pumpkin in a thin layer onto a non-stick baking tray.
- Bake for 6-8 hours or until the pumpkin is no longer sticky to the touch.
- When cool cut the pumpkin leather into treat-sized strips.
Beefy Cheese Bones
A savory treat for your furry friends!
- 2 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup dog friendly cheese, grated (Not all cheese varieties are safe for dogs)
- 1 egg
- ½ cup low-fat beef broth or chicken broth
- Preheat oven to about 170 degrees Celsius.
- Add 2 cups oats (save the other 1/2), broth, and egg to a large mixing bowl. Combine well. Add cheese, remaining ½ cup of rolled oats and combine.
- Knead dough for about 3 minutes then place in fridge for 3 minutes so it will become firmer. Press to ½-inch thickness.
- Use a bone shaped cookie cutter to cut shapes then place onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 20 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely.
