Policies – Covered For Life - vs. - Time Limited Cover or Maximum Benefit

With the range of pet insurance options available, it can be a daunting task when choosing the right one for you and your pet. Numerous companies’ discounts and giveaways when you sign up that can blind you from what the policy is actually offering. If you don’t know what you’re looking for, choosing an appropriate plan can be extremely time consuming and in some cases, an expensive exercise if you choose a plan that still leaves you paying for those unexpected vet bills.

In order to help you with this process, we hope to shed some light on the different types of pet insurance available and the difference between each one.

Essentially, when it comes down to it, all pet insurance policies can be categorised into the following:

  • ‘Covered For Life®’ (where chronic or reoccurring illnesses are covered for the life of the pet, provided the policy is renewed each year without break)
  • Guaranteed Life Time Cover (only guarantees to cover the pet in old age, not lifelong or chronic illnesses)
  • Maximum Benefit Cover (will only cover to a set amount Per Condition, then the condition is excluded)
  • 12 Months Cover (Conditions are covered for 12 months, then the condition is excluded)
