What are the Petplan Veterinary Awards?

Veterinary professionals are a special breed, and since 2016, the Petplan Veterinary Awards have recognised the industry’s ‘’best in show’’.

Petplan work closely with the veterinary profession and see firsthand the fantastic work that goes on in veterinary practices all across New Zealand. This initiative was created by Petplan to allow everyone to recognise and support the hard work of all veterinary professionals. People from all over the country have the opportunity to nominate their veterinary heroes, and it is the job of Petplan’s panel of expert judges to sniff out the top dogs in the three categories before a final public vote to announce the winners.

CONGRATULATIONS to our 2018 Veterinary Award Winners

Petplan in partnership with ROYAL CANIN® would like to congratulate all Vets, Vet Nurses and Vet Practices who were nominated for the 2018 Petplan Veterinary Awards, and a huge well done to all of our finalists. We were blown away by the amount of nominations and votes received, which is a credit to the amazing work of each and every person and practice that were nominated.

There could only be one winner from each category, and we are thrilled to introduce you to the 2018 winners!

Vet Nurse of the Year

Zoe Hyett

At The Vets, Christchurch
Helen Gorton
Zoe saw the most nominations and votes across all categories, our inbox was overflowing! Warm natured and well loved, we think Zoe is a deserving winner for going above and beyond with her patients and owners. Great work Zoe!

"Following the Christchurch earthquake just over 5 years ago, I realised I wasn't doing something that I am passionate about and that needed to change! I enrolled in an Animal Care course, and from there went on to study Veterinary Nursing. This is a tough, challenging industry to work in, but I wouldn't change what I do for the world.

Every day I wake up I am excited to go to work, and absolutely adore our patients and clients that I have come to know and love so well. My particular areas of interest are animal nutrition and mental health/compassion fatigue in our Vets and Nurses, which I have made a huge focus in our clinic."

Vet of the Year

Alistair Newbould

Humanimals, Dunedin South
John Ward
Alistair received a great number votes, proving how valued he is in the Dunedin community. Nominations told of his great care and how important he was to owners whose pets had run into some trouble. Love your work Alistair!

“I have the best job in the world. I help my clients care for their animals, the animals that mean so much to them and such a big part of their lives. I get to do this because this amazing country and its people recognise that the way we treat our animals is the way we treat each other. Plus, my clients are committed to the care of their pets.

I can only do this work with the support of all the other people who work at Humanimals, all our suppliers and the expert referral vets who help us out and most importantly a family who understands me. I knew when I started that this was not a job, nor a career, but a way of life.”

Vet Practice of the Year

Hamilton Veterinary Services

Nominations for Hamilton Veterinary Services spoke of their outstanding service plus the level of care they provide. Not surprisingly, with that reputation, word got out and their clients got voting!
“Hamilton Vets has been serving the community for over 56 years – That’s 392 in dog years!

Compassionate care for our furry family members is the cornerstone of Hamilton Vets. From our experienced veterinarians to our professional staff, every member of the Hamilton Vets team is committed to the highest standard of veterinary care.

In addition to providing top quality care, we strive to make every visit to the clinic a pleasant and stress-free experience for clients and pets.”
